Two student-athletes from St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary School made their national football debut thanks to the 2025 Canada Football Chat (CFC) Prospect Game.
The CFC Prospect Game is a premier event showcasing top Canadian high school football talent, with past participants going on to play in elite NCAA programs. The selection process included a combined tour across eight cities, measuring athletes in speed, agility, and explosive power through drills like the 40-yard dash, shuttle, and vertical jump.
When a few participants unexpectedly dropped out, organizers reached out to nearby talent. That’s when the call came in for Owen Corriveau-Prak (No 59) and Jacob Whitlock (No 31).
“They texted me to ask if I wanted to play because I was local,” said Corriveau-Prak.
“I said I’d love to. The intensity, teamwork and the never-ending desire to get better are what I enjoy most about playing football. Nothing compares to the rush of game day.”
The Grade 11 athlete said the experience of playing in the prestigious event made a powerful impact on his development. “Every play is an opportunity to establish your worth and add to something greater than your individual achievement. I felt like I stood out from the other players after my performance,” he said. “I’m grateful that CFC picked me. Thank you, CFC.”
Newman Head Football Coach Lino Battilana emphasized the significance of the achievement:
“To be selected to the CFC Prospect Game is a huge accomplishment.”
“Both students are very talented, both in the classroom and on the field. I believe these are Newman’s first-ever players to play in this game. With our history of very talented athletes, it’s great to see Newman represented alongside players from all over this great country.”
