
National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) is a time to celebrate the contributions of persons with disabilities and recognize the efforts being made across Canada to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion. It also offers an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing responsibility we all share in building communities where everyone feels welcome, supported, and valued.
This year’s theme, “Breaking barriers together: Paving the way for an inclusive future,” emphasizes the importance of working collectively to create a fairer and more inclusive Canada—one where all individuals can participate fully and equally. By breaking down barriers and supporting the needs and interests of persons with disabilities, we help foster environments rooted in respect, belonging, and inclusion.
The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church and places priority on promoting the dignity of the human person. In all that we do, we are committed to fostering communities where every individual is recognized as a unique and valued member, deserving of respect, care, and full participation. Red Shirt Day
As part of the week’s celebrations, Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion will be observed on Wednesday, May 28th. First celebrated in 2019 by Easter Seals, Red Shirt Day invites people across Canada to wear red to show support for persons with disabilities and their families, to celebrate their achievements, and to commit to building a more accessible and inclusive society.
