Last week, Cathedral High School gathered for Truth and Reconciliation Awareness Week with a school-wide assembly to commemorate, reflect, and listen. Guest speaker Lyndon George shared hard truths about the legacy of residential schools in Canada and the deep, lasting impact it has on generations. His powerful words encouraged students and staff to confront this history and understand the ongoing need for healing and justice.
Yesterday, students and staff across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board wore orange shirts to symbolize the commitment to the journey of reconciliation. While progress has been made, there's still much work to do in ensuring that the truth is fully acknowledged and the path toward reconciliation continues.
The HWCDSB staff, students, and trustees are committed to journeying with our Indigenous brothers and sisters in a spirit of truth and reconciliation through active listening, prayer, and right action. This was one of many events of recognition taking place throughout the board, reinforcing the ongoing importance of reflection and action in our schools and communities.
