National AccessAbility Week is May 26 to June 1, 2024.

During this week, we recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities as well as the accomplishments of individuals, communities, and workplaces to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion. It is also a time to reflect on the ongoing work we all have to do to counter discrimination against persons with disabilities and promote a culture of inclusion.

When barriers are removed, Canadians with disabilities are able to participate fully in society and workplaces. This helps our communities thrive and our economy prosper, so all Canadians benefit.

This year’s theme “Forward Together: Accessibility and Inclusion for All,” emphasizing the need for collective efforts to create a barrier-free Canada. It is only by moving forward together that we will achieve a truly accessible and inclusive Canada. Our country's strength lies in the diversity of its people—all its people—and we can all contribute to this vision.

Red Shirt Day
As part of the week's celebrations, Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion will be observed on Wednesday, May 29th. This initiative, first celebrated in 2019 by Easter Seals, encourages people across Canada to wear red to show their support for disabled people and their families, celebrate the achievements of disabled Canadians, and pledge their commitment to creating a fully accessible and inclusive society.

On May 29th, we invite you to celebrate within your school community by wearing red.
