New online HWSTS transportation portal

Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services (HWSTS) provides a Parent Portal on its website, www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca. Information for the 2025–2026 school year will be available on the HWSTS Portal starting August 19, 2025, and will be updated regularly throughout the school year.

When checking the transportation details before the first day of school, please remember that last minute changes can occur; therefore, it is important to re-check the information before sending children to their assigned pickup locations on September 2.

During the school year, transportation information will be available online to check at any time. The HWSTS Portal is updated nightly to ensure the most current bus information is posted.

HWSTS is open over the summer; however, for specific information related to your child(ren), please contact their home school. Secondary school offices are open throughout the summer, while elementary school offices will be open on August 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will reopen on September 2. All address changes must be completed at your child’s school.

All students in Junior Kindergarten or Senior Kindergarten will receive a custom transportation email over the summer with relevant information.

DSRActive & Sustainable School Travel (ASST)

While students who live beyond 1.6km (1.2km for JK/SK) from school are eligible for home-to-school bussing provided by HWSTS, those who live within 1.6km are in the 'walk zone' and can use active transportation (walk, bike, scooter, wheelchair, etc.) supported by the Daily School Route (DSR). The DSR is an active transportation system for kids that collaborates with the HWCDSB, the City of Hamilton, and community partners in an effort to get 100% of students living within the walk zone using active transportation to get to/from school daily. For school-specific resources, please visit https://www.dailyschoolroute.org

Transportation at HWCDSB

At HWCDSB, student transportation is provided by the consortium Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services (HWSTS). HWSTS provides safe, effective and efficient transportation services to eligible students at HWCDSB as well as Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.

This may take the form of traditional yellow school buses, school purpose vans or Hamilton Street Railway transit.

How am I notified of a bus delay?

HWSTS maintains a Parent Portal. By registering with this tool, families can receive email updates when a morning or afternoon bus delay occurs. Delays are also found on the HWSTS website.

In addition, bus delays are posted to the website of the affected HWCDSB schools. To avoid duplication with the HWSTS portal, HWCDSB does not send its website subscribers a second email about a bus delay.

How do I contact transportation staff?

Families are encouraged to visit the HWSTS website at www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca to learn more.

How does severe winter weather affect transportation at HWCDSB?

The decision to remain open or to close is always made with the safety and security of our students and staff in mind. When a decision to close is made, it is done so in conjunction with our colleagues at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board based on relevant information at that time.

School Boards across Ontario have varying policies around the cancellation of schools. At HWCDSB, the cancellation of transportation due to inclement weather does not automatically mean that schools are closed.

Please remember, as a parent/guardian you always have the choice of whether or not to send your child to school. HWCDSB will NOT post a weather alert on its website to signal that schools are open.
