The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board extends heartfelt congratulations to Superintendent of Education Morris Hucal on his appointment as the next Director of Education for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. While his faith-filled leadership will be deeply missed, we celebrate this new opportunity and the continued impact he will have on Catholic education, said Patrick Daly, Chairperson of the Board.
Over the past 34 years, Mr. Hucal has served the HWCDSB community with faith, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to Catholic education.
“Mr. Hucal has made a significant contribution to our Catholic school system,” said Mr. Daly, Chairperson of the Board. “He served with integrity and consistently gave witness to our shared conviction to, ‘place Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church at the centre’ of students’ learning experiences.”
“Mr. Hucal has lived out his Catholic vocation not only through his work, but in the way he uplifts others, builds community, and lives his faith with pure joy and conviction,” said David Hansen, Director of Education. “He has been a light for others, an example of servant leadership whose influence extends far beyond the walls of our schools.”
Reflecting on his time with HWCDSB, Mr. Hucal shared:
“HWCDSB has been more than a workplace—it has been a faith-filled community that has shaped my vocation in Catholic education and strengthened my commitment to Gospel-centred leadership. I am profoundly thankful to have been part of a system where the dignity of each person is honoured, and where the mission of Catholic education is lived out daily with compassion, dedication, and excellence. As I look forward to returning home to Sudbury, I do so with a full heart—grateful for the journey I’ve had, and inspired by the opportunity to lead and serve the Sudbury Catholic DSB community.”
“On behalf of the entire HWCDSB community, we extend our congratulations to Mr. Hucal on this well-deserved appointment and wish him all of God’s blessings as he moves to the next phase in his journey of dedicated service to Catholic education, “said Mr. Daly.
Mr. Hucal’s final day with HWCDSB will be Friday, July 4, 2025.
