There was electricity in the air as the final buzzer sounded, crowning Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Elementary School as the junior boys’ basketball champions.
With a thrilling 33-25 victory over St. Paul Catholic Elementary School, the results were a testament to the boys’ dedication to the game.
“I'm incredibly proud of this team, not just for being champions, but for how they got there,” reflected Coach Marina Ciannavei.
“All season long, they played with heart, passion, and never gave up. They faced every challenge head on and showed what it means to compete with character and resilience. This championship is a reflection of their hard work, dedication and love for the game. I am honoured to be their coach.”
From the first tip-off to the final seconds of the championship, the team's focus never wavered.
“Every time they stepped on the court, you could see how much they wanted it, they showed that fight and determination right until the very end,” added Coach Myra Hucal.
And fight they did.
In the championship game, the boys found themselves trailing but didn’t panic. Fueled by sheer determination and the roar of their home crowd, they rallied back to secure a hard-fought victory.
“Our junior boys showed up with positivity and enthusiasm for each and every game in the playoffs this past weekend,” said Coach Tara Black.
“I couldn't be prouder of them to go undefeated in the three playoff games and most importantly winning the championship game on our home court.”
Her words were echoed by Coach Alessia Genovese.
"I am so proud of our Junior Boys Basketball team at Our Lady of the Assumption. These boys played with heart, worked hard every single game and absolutely deserved that win. It's been an honour to coach them this season and watch them grow not only as players, but as a team. I'm also deeply grateful to have had the support of an amazing coaching team. What a season to remember!"
