Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Elementary School, nestled on the Hamilton Mountain brow, celebrated its 100th anniversary on May 16. The school community gathered for a special mass led by the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, OMI, and Father Charlie Jordan. Attendees included Chairperson Patrick Daly, the school community trustee, retired teachers, and principals, all significant figures in the school’s history.
Mr. Daly expressed gratitude to Bishop Crosby, and student council members Morel and Gozel also shared their thanks. After the final blessing, Bishop Crosby blessed each attendee as they left.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Elementary School, though small, is known for its educational excellence. Situated by the escarpment, it is described as a hidden gem. The school fosters a tight-knit community where every child is valued. Its proximity to the church enhances spiritual growth, with Grade 3 students and their FDK buddies attending weekly masses led by Father Charlie.
In this milestone year, the school collaborated with three sister schools—St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES, St. Anthony Daniels CES, and St. Margaret Mary CES—to aid those in need by collecting toiletries. United by common purpose, they gathered toiletries with unwavering dedication, recognizing that even the smallest act of kindness can illuminate the darkest of nights. During Lent, the students also focused on a global cause, pooling resources to fund a year of schooling for children in need, highlighting their commitment to empathy and education.
During Catholic Education Week, the school engaged in various activities. Students participated in a living rosary, scripture readings, and an Earth Day liturgy. ECO students planted spider plants for each class, underscoring their dedication to environmental sustainability.
