On Thursday, March 7th, at St. Jean de Brébeuf Catholic Secondary School, over 300 students across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board celebrated their gift of music and vocal talent at this year’s Vocalfest.
"This is such a wonderful opportunity for these students to celebrate and promote their gifts and the power of music. Each group performed songs that ranged in genre and vocal styles," said Mary Tabone, Arts Facilitator.
"This year's event was an affirmation that music is the thing that unites us, and a continuation of a long and successful tradition of strong music programs in the HWCDSB. It was a blessing to celebrate each school together, and the success of this event was measured by the students involved and, in the audience, all of whom had a blast! The strength of performances from each school is a testament to how vital and significant the arts are in our students' lives. Giving them a performance opportunity in a professional performing arts theatre, in front of a live audience, using professional equipment, while working as part of a group is an opportunity that is becoming increasingly rare these days, which is what makes Vocalfest so special. HWCDSB Arts programs are certainly thriving - and definitely put the 'A' in steAm!" - Dave Curto, Music Teacher and host school St. Jean de Brébeuf.
The Vocalfest has once again proven to be an incredible showcase of student talent and passion, marking a successful culmination of this year's event.
