Across Ontario, school social workers have been there for students and families, providing support and connection to essential services in a time of extraordinary challenges.
This year's Social Work Week campaign themes, #SocialWorkOpensDoors for people across Ontario.
The 2024 theme, #SocialWorkOpensDoors, speaks to the many ways that social workers help to create new and empowering pathways and opportunities for the people they support. From providing direct mental health services, to helping people navigate complex systems and challenges, and connecting people with the right supports, social workers make a difference when it's needed most.
The social workers within our schools are opening doors for students every day. They highlight their potential while advocating and creating pathways, both within school and in the community to ensure that they are receiving the best possible support and care.
“The HWCDSB school social workers strive every day to support, advocate and pathway students and families, especially after the many years of COVID disruptions. Their expertise, patience and devotion make them a true asset to our system and Catholic education. I am blessed every day to work alongside such a dedicated staff, and truly grateful for the commitment that they demonstrate day to day, "says Jenny Athanasiou-Malisa, Manager, Social Work Services.
“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” - Mother Teresa.
During Social Work Week, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board would like to recognize and thank its 20 school social workers for their dedication and example.
