“Clothed in Christ... Thread His Love," a creation by St. Clare of Assisi CES, secured second place in the OCSTA Short Video Contest!
In the fall of 2023, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association invited students to produce a video illustrating how the scriptural quote inspiring this year’s theme for Catholic Education Week is mirrored in our treatment and respect for one another: “If we love one another, God lives in us.” (1 John 4:12)
Catholic students in grades 4-12 across the province were called upon to craft a 2-minute video highlighting how demonstrating care and respect for others bears witness to our faith. Students were motivated to find inspiration in the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations - section 1 (d). This section delves into our calling to be discerning believers through thought and action by developing “attitudes and values founded on Catholic social teaching and acts to promote social responsibility, human solidarity, and the common good.” Additionally, the 2023-24 Catholic Education Week sub-themes provided ideas to support student video submissions: We are Called to Love…As people of hope, As people of faith, As people of mercy, As people of justice, As people of joy.
Amidst this creative outpouring, "Clothed in Christ... Thread His Love," a creation by St. Clare of Assisi CES, secured second place in the OCSTA Short Video Contest!
We are extremely proud of this hardworking group of students that make up our current Student Council at St. Clare of Assisi. Mairead McConville, Lauren Marrazzo, Teagan Murphy, Melina Martino, Nikita Ochoa, Lilly Raftis, and Treece Tortosa truly embody "Clothed in Christ....Thread His Love" and our Gospel values in their everyday interactions with fellow students and staff,” said Principal, Mike Mielko.
“They are outstanding role models, and their leadership is instrumental in helping us create and sustain a vibrant, inclusive, and positive Catholic school culture. We are also very grateful for our wonderful teacher advisors, Mrs. Molinaro, Mrs. Habza, Mr. Baird, and Mr. Bruccoleri, for their guidance and support of such an inspiring student initiative,” he added.
OCSTA received nearly 100 video submissions capturing this year's Catholic Education Week theme, "We are Called to Love." OCSTA has expressed gratitude for the goodness and efforts of all the students and staff who contributed to promoting the Catholic identity of publicly funded Catholic schools in our province.
A special thank you goes out to the schools of HWCDSB who responded to the invitation and submitted a video. Congratulations to St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Elementary School for securing second place; their winning submission is linked below!
