St. Eugene students receive lesson in lacrosse and Indigenous culture
A visit from players on the Toronto Rock National Lacrosse Team not only provided St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School students an opportunity for physical activity, but allowed them to explore Indigenous culture.
On November 24, students were introduced to Assistant Captain Brad Kri and player Tyler Hendryks who shared the history of the game and its connection to Indigenous traditions.
“The grade 5s are learning about First Nations and European Explorers in Social Studies,” said teacher Melissa Dickson, who organized the interactive experience.
“Brad and Tyler helped students develop fundamental lacrosse skills and allowed them to gain a greater understanding of how, through sport, we can establish a stronger sense of community.”
“I love the game of lacrosse and wanted to share the experience with our grade 5-8 students.”
“They absolutely loved it.”
