St. Matthew students paint derby car for Binbrook Fair
While September marks the start of school, it also marks a special tradition for the grade 7 students at St. Matthew Catholic Elementary School.
Since 2016, the school has been asked to paint a car for the Binbrook Fair Derby.
“St. Matthew is very proud to have the opportunity to participate in the derby at the Binbrook Fair and display their artistic creativity,” said Principal Marc Trotta. “The fair is a wonderful community event, and we encourage our families to participate and attend events at the fair.”
“Each year Luke Mikalauskas is the owner and drives the cars sponsored by Bodyline,” said Teacher Susan Dziuba. Together, she leads the project with Teacher Dave Mcnaught.
“Our students look forward to this each year.”
This year, Al Hierlihy drove St. Matthew's derby car, she noted.
In addition to helping the car stand out for the main derby event, the St. Matthew students also received an award for best car design.
